Who We Are

Solar Cities Scotland

Solar Cities Scotland is a membership led Scottish Charity based in Dundee. It was established in 2005 to coordinate a strategic, multi-agency campaign aimed at establishing Dundee as Scotland's first Solar City. As part of this project it created a demonstration 'Eco' house as a resource for education, advice and information about renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable construction . This was complemented with a public awareness and educational campaign delivered by SCS staff. Following this, SCS has received funding from the Climate Challenge Fund to deliver a sustainable energy promotion scheme and carbon reduction project that build on SCS's strengths in community engagement and practical knowledge of renewable energy solutions to bring about low carbon living.

Dundee - Sun City

It's a little known fact that Dundee has the best sunshine records of all Scotland's cities. With around 60% of all properties having a South, South East or South West facing roof, sloping towards the Tay Estuary. It's no wonder, then, that Solar Cities Scotland's chose to launch the Sun City campaign in Dundee.

" Dundee's setting is probably more extraordinary than any other city in Scotland or Britain. It is about as ideal - ludicrously ideal - as any city setting could be."

Stephen Fry, Actor
